Roland Paolucci
Roland is a former professor at the University of Akron where he was Coordinator of Jazz Studies in the School of Music. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in music and a Master’s degree in Arts Management. Under his direction, the U. of A. Jazz Ensemble won numerous awards both regionally and nationally. Paolucci retired in 2000 and was awarded the title Professor Emeritus. Roland has been a member of the IAJE, president of the Akron Area Arts Council and a member of the Music Advisory Panel of the Ohio Arts Council. Paolucci has adjudicated at numerous jazz festivals and is an active jazz pianist around NE Ohio. In 1993, Roland retired as Musical Director of the CJO, a position he held since 1986. During his tenure he directed performances with Louis Bellson, Lew Soloff, Milt Hinton, Guido Basso, Tom Harrell, Benny Carter, Carl Fontana, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Tony Bennett, Diane Schuur and Tommy Flanagan. Roland has produced two CJO recordings and continues to serve on the Board of Directors.
