A Warm Welcome!

If you have to ask what jazz is, you'll never know.

Louis Armstrong

The CJO celebrates jazz as a uniquely American art form, and we are continuously seeking ways to engage new audiences and expand our reach across the region. One way we are able to do this is through the support and encouragement of our board of directors.

So, this week, we are delighted to introduce two new board members who will be helping us pursue our mission of bringing jazz to Northeast Ohio.

Jack Eyre

A native of Westlake, Ohio, Jack Eyre grew up surrounded by music for nearly his entire life, from going to Cleveland Orchestra shows at Blossom Music Center and Severance Hall, to playing and writing about music to this day.

He first took an interest in jazz in middle school, and has pursued jazz performance in multiple capacities ever since. A tenor saxophonist since 2004, he studied for six formative years under the CJO's Chris Burge, and, while well-versed in many styles of music performance, jazz is his most notable passion. After graduating from Westlake High School, Jack pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Music minor at The College of Wooster.

Upon graduating from Wooster, Jack took a position as an admissions officer at Kenyon College, in Gambier, Ohio, for a few years. Then in 2018, Eyre moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration at Vanderbilt University. After graduation from Vanderbilt, he moved back to the Columbus area, in July 2020, to resume in the Office of Admissions at Kenyon College.

In addition to the formal training and music coursework in college, Jack continues to pursue various outlets to perform jazz today.

Paul Hundertmark

Paul Hundertmark has a long-standing passion for jazz music and jazz history, and he’s appreciated and enjoyed the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra for many years.

A business owner for 34 years, of his design/build company, Markwood Builders, Inc./Markwood Homes, he has flourished in both the residential and commercial markets, emphasizing the design and custom build of large-scale luxury homes. He also brings to the table experience with environmental impact studies, as well as project management, and customer relations.

Additionally, Paul is a former Guardian Ad Litem, Court Appointed Special Advocate with Summit County Children services, as well as a former Executive Director of Millcreek Valley Habitat For Humanity in Cincinnati, Ohio.

As he joins the CJO, he looks forward to playing a role in helping to advance this wonderful art form into the future.
