A note from Artistic Director Paul Ferguson:
One can easily place Holly Hofmann on the short list of iconic jazz flutists, a lineage that would include her mentor Frank Wess, Hubert Laws, and James Newton–a formidable list indeed! Our hometown heroes–Holly, Ken Peplowski, and Joe Lovano–all boast remarkable pedigrees that show an impressive reach, respect for tradition and innovation, and a solid commitment to remembering their hometowns.
As always, we've created, pretty much from scratch, a program that features our artist in the best possible light. I've enjoyed creating new settings for Holly of some jazz standards (“Bebop,” “Ceora,” “A Child is Born”) as well as one of Holly's compositions, “Flutopia.” New music and arrangements by our talented stable of arrangers–Chas Baker, Brad Wagner, and Aidan Plank–fill out the program, along with a few of our Christmas specialties of the house.
