"Maria Schneider Conducts" Program Insert
Seven-time Grammy Award Winner "Maria Schneider Conducts"
Friday, November 19, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. at the Maltz Performing Arts Center
We are delighted to kick off our 2021-2022 season with Maria Schneider, the greatest jazz composer of our generation, as she conducts her Grammy Award winning album Data Lords.
A note from Artistic Director Paul Ferguson:
A note from Artistic Director Paul Ferguson:
Maria Schneider has been a close personal friend since we met in graduate school in 1984. Upon graduation in 1985, she moved to NYC. May I dryly note that she was probably not responding to a Help wanted ad in the NYT requesting female jazz composers! Combining vision, grit, talent and persistence, she has emerged as the greatest jazz composer of her generation. All jazz is personal - hers is more so and done with remarkable craft and imagination. Embracing her femininity, she offers new sounds, viewpoints and vantage points on beauty. Enjoy!
