Play On!

If music be the food of love, play on. –William Shakespeare

We’re back and so excited to return to schools, inspiring a new generation of jazz musicians. And we’re finding new ways to share music - in addition to our in-person educational activities, we’re leading an instrument donation program, and this month marks the first deliveries of instruments to schools in need!

Ben Franklin Middle School, Cleveland

Did you know that the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra started a pilot residency program in one of the Cleveland Municipal School District's middle schools in Fall of 2019? The program was deemed such a success, we've expanded it to four schools this year!

However, some of the schools are lacking adequate instruments for a successful music program, so we have launched an instrument donation program to keep the music alive. Earlier this month, CJO Executive Director Scott Garlock and CJO Treasurer Paul Hundertmark brought carloads of instruments to Ben Franklin Middle School.

I could really use trumpets and trombones. Tubas would be great to set aside for the near future. I can use a good snare. I can use a bass and a guitar

"We're so glad we are on your radar. This gift will really change some lives.”

Sincerely, J Scott Franklin, Benjamin Franklin School

Roxboro Middle School, Cleveland Heights

This month, we also shared instruments with the Roxboro Middle School in Cleveland Heights. CJO Treasurer Paul Hundertmark made that special delivery, compliments of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra.

"Thank you so much for your generous donation of instruments to Roxboro Middle School. Your contribution of two flutes, two clarinets, and one alto saxophone will be put to good use by our 6th - 8th grade band members.

We appreciate your support of the performing arts in Cleveland Heights!

Warmly,

Daniel Hershman-RossiBand Director, Roxboro Middle School"
